![]() From a location free from bright lights and tall obstructions like buildings or trees, a single observer looking overhead and toward the northeast might see up to 90 shooting stars per hour. Our Perseid meteor shower observing guide has tips and tricks to see them. They appear fast and bright and frequently leave persistent trains. These meteoroids are no bigger than sand grains or pebbles, have the consistency of cigar ash and are consumed many miles above our heads. The Perseids never fail to provide an impressive display and, due to the shower's summertime appearance, it tends to provide the majority of meteors seen by non-astronomy enthusiasts. The Perseid meteor shower, the most famous of all meteor showers, is expected to reach its peak during the predawn hours of Aug.12. In this 30 second exposure, a meteor streaks across the sky during the annual Perseid meteor shower on Aug. Spring-Summer: Venus shines magnificently The umbra lifts back out into space at 5:54 GMT over the North Pacific Ocean, transitioning back to an annular eclipse, but only for a couple of minutes before the shadow slides completely off the Earth’s surface.Ī partial solar eclipse, caused by the far vaster penumbra that surrounds the umbra, begins an hour before, and ends an hour after the central (annular-total) eclipse, and can also be seen in varying extent over parts of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, all of Australia and Indonesia, a slice of Southeast Asia, the north half of New Zealand and a portion of Antarctica. Here, the sun will be totally eclipsed for 76.1 seconds at an altitude of 67 degrees, but the eclipse path is only 30 miles wide.Ĭontinuing northeast, it cuts through West Papua, New Guinea and then turns east, narrowly missing the tiny island of Kosrae of Micronesia. ![]() The point of greatest eclipse is attained in the Timor Sea, just south of Timor-Leste, in Southeast Asia. From Cape Range National Park, the sun is totally eclipsed for 63 seconds. From then on, the eclipse transitions to a total, as the umbra cuts into our planet the breadth of its path on the surface, and the duration of totality as seen within that path, grow.įirst landfall of the solar eclipse is in North West Cape, a peninsula in Western Australia. At that instant of crossover, a properly positioned ship or trawler sees the moon exactly covering the sun for an instant in a total solar eclipse. Then, at 02:38 GMT on April 20, the umbra tip hits the surface. As seen from the South Indian Ocean, approximately 270 miles west-northwest of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, the moon does not quite cover the sun instead, a very fine – and rapidly narrowing ring of fire shows around the moon's outline. For the first minute or so it does not touch down and this first solar eclipse of 2023 starts off annular (ring-of-fire shaped) eclipse. The moon's distance at the time (233,582 miles) is such that the tip of the umbra merely scrapes the surface of the Earth. The dark shadow cone of the moon, called the umbra, sweeps northeast across Indonesia in a rare hybrid solar eclipse on April 20. Photographer Nafe Alamri sent in a photo of a hybrid solar eclipse taken from Al Qunfudhah, Saudi Arabia, at 5:29 pm local time on Nov. If you hold your clenched fist out at arm's length, the two worlds are separated by three fists. 1, both planets are evident in the west-southwest sky. It will be most interesting to watch the gradual convergence of the two brightest planets, Venus and Jupiter, all through the month of February. Also, the Queen of Spades or "Calamity Jane" is worth 13 points. ![]() In modern day Hearts, unlike Reversis, each Heart is worth one point. Since then this scientific card game has come a long way. It originated in Spain in the 1700's, at that time Heart was called Reversis. The card game, Hearts, has evolved over the years. Whichever player has the LEAST amount of points wins! When a player reaches 100 points, the game will end. Each round of Hearts will end when players have completed their hands. This means a player must play a heart while another suit is being played. A leading trick player is not able to start with a heart unless they only have hearts in their hand or until the hearts have been "broken". The player who takes the trick will become the leader of the next trick. The points accumulated by any penalties and the trick are given to the player of the highest card in the suit that was originally put into play. Among the cards they may choose to discard or "slough" is a penalty Heart or the Queen of Spades. If they do not have a card that is the same suit as the lead card then Heart players can play any card that they have. Subsequent players are to play a card that is the same suit as the lead card. Hearts Card Game is played in a clockwise order. After they have done so the other Heart players will play a card from their hands. Start playing Hearts with the card player with the 2 of clubs starting off the first trick. However, even though the rules are simple there is a righteous range of scientific sport in this "evasion type" card game. ![]() ![]() It is a bumpy ride!! I wish they would put GPS tracker on them and you can download an app so you’re not finding yourself having to run for them, they’re never on time. Also be aware the trams omit harsh fumes, I found myself getting nauseous from the fumes a couple of times, and they show up for pick up every 10 to 15 minutes. Trams: On checking days, Friday, Saturdays, Sunday and Mondays the trolleys will take you all over, however they don’t tell you this but after Tuesday the trams only take you to certain stops, or transfer point then you have to walk the rest of the way to your destinations point. I was hoping for it to be a little bit more cooler, considering how hot and humid it was. All the pools on the resort were literally bath water. Pools: I was expecting the pools to be a lot cooler than it was. Wifi: don’t plan on working while at resort the Wi-Fi is horrible, It will boot you out about every 5 to 10 minutes. Do not book your excursions on the resort you will pay more if you are out and about use an outside vendor for your excursions, It will save you about $50 apiece per person depending on the excursion and transportation will be included. Otherwise they will tell you they will bring it up in 30 minutes but the food never showed up until after 45 minutes our ice melted and deli meat and cheese and yogurt got hot in the high humidity and heat. if you do decide to go grocery shopping, please be conscious of the expiration dates we found a lot of food items that were expired or molded over!!, however, if you do choose to go grocery shopping, do not allow the resort workers to bring your food upstairs for you, bring it in yourself. Otherwise you can go to a Walmart which is 30 minutes each direction and do your grocery shopping there for dinners if you don’t want to pay every night for dinner. ![]() The meals on the resort are extremely expensive. We did feel extremely safe on and off the resort. Yes there are sign and you can fallow them but the trails come to a fork and there’s no signs from there your on your own, by the time we got our bearings, it was already time for us to leave the resort, honestly, my daughters and I felt we wasted more time waiting for a tram or trying to get around the resort then we did off the resort. Sober, We found ourselves going in circles several times and got a little frustrated and I felt when we asked for directions that they may have been new employees and would give us the wrong direction. You will never make it!!!!! □□ happened to a few people We met at the resort. Word to the wise Do not try to drink a lot and walk back to your resort at night. With a jungle like atmosphere which is very beautiful might I add, but it’s kind of hard to tell where you are going, it all looks the same but with all the jungle life and tall vegetation you can get turned around. This resort sits on about 500 acres, so be prepared to walk or wait every 15 minutes for a tram, and if you decide to walk great but make sure you get your bearings first. ![]() also bear in mind if you are not doing all inclusive, they will ask for your credit card in advance and they will charge $1500 in advance for resort usage, I was not at all happy about that!!! And was not informed upon booking of this charge. I will start by saying this resort is not for the impatient!! The check in process was way too long and too confusing, we had to take a tram from central lobby to different checkpoints before you actually got to the main lobby for check-in, although most hospitable and very kind, however they will try to sell you timeshare and other excursions right after your check-in so be leery about that. However, It may look like one but did not feel like a 5 star resort. □Be aware before you book!!□ overall not impressed!! This resort is rated almost a five star resort.
